Budget and Pupil Premium

“the Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.” (DFE 2012)

The Government introduced funding called ‘Pupil Premium’ as a way of reducing the inequalities experienced by disadvantaged pupils up to the age of 16 which means that it helps children from lower income families to their very best.   This funding is given to schools based on the numbers of pupils in receipt of free School meals (FSM) as entered onto the school census.
