GORTON MOUNT WELCOMES NEW PRINCIPAL

Phil Mellen has been appointed as the new Principal of Gorton Mount Primary Academy. Phil takes over from long-standing Principal Carol Powell.

Phil is already extremely familiar with Gorton Mount, having cultivated a close partnership with the school in his role as Principal of fellow Bright Futures school Stanley Grove Primary Academy.

Since his appointment in 2013, Phil has enjoyed significant success as Principal of Stanley Grove. Most recently, the school celebrated continued improvement in its SATs results, with 70 per cent of students achieving Level 4 or higher combined across Reading, Writing and Maths. Elsewhere this year, the school entered the top one per cent nationally for progress in writing, as part of an overall improvement in teaching and learning across the school.

Commenting on his appointment, Phil Mellen said: “I’ve already seen first hand the commited approach to teaching and learning at Gorton Mount, and am looking forward to getting to know the staff, students and parents over the next few weeks. Together, I believe we will be able to build on the fantastic learning environment that has been developed here.”

Dame Dana Ross-Wawrzynski, CEO of Bright Futures Educational Trust, added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to offer our thanks to Carol Powell for her years of exceptional service to the school. She has contributed greatly to the the school’s continued improvement and we wish her the best of luck for the future. We welcome the appointment of Phil Mellen as Principal, who will be a great addition to the team at Gorton Mount and I’m certain the school will continue to progress under his dynamic leadership.”

    Hi Mr Mellon,
I am congratulating you for coming to this school because from when I came there I felt like I belong there. I have only been there for only 2 years and already I felt that the people from there are my family but now because I left I couldn’t come to see you face to face.
